How It Works
Connect Magento once and Pricemaster keeps your storefront priced
Pricemaster connects directly to your Magento store through the standard Magento REST API. That single connection lets Pricemaster read your product catalogue, watch the market around each product, calculate new prices inside your margin rules, and write the new price back to the matching product in Magento. Because it writes straight to Magento, the change is live on your storefront right away — there's nothing to publish, export or sync by hand.
It's a closed loop: read your catalogue → track competitors → recalculate within your guardrails → push the new price back to the product. From then on it runs on a schedule, and you can send prices on demand whenever you want.
Promotion-aware: if a product is currently on a special (sale) price, Pricemaster updates the
special price; otherwise it updates the standard price. Your promotion structure is respected — Pricemaster moves whichever price is actually live. Selling on more channels than just Magento? The
Linnworks integration reprices every channel from one connection.
What Syncs
What Pricemaster reads, and what it writes back
Imported from Magento
Pricemaster pulls your catalogue page by page and captures, for each product:
- Product name & SKU
- Barcode / EAN and MPN — used for accurate competitor matching
- Current price, plus any active special (sale) price
- Cost — powers margin maths
- Stock quantity & status
- Product image
- Description
Written back to Magento
The only thing Pricemaster changes is the price:
- The calculated new price, written to the matching product on a schedule (or on demand).
- Promotion-aware: products on a special price have their special price updated; everything else has its standard price updated.
- Large catalogues are sent in batches so many prices update reliably.
- Every change is logged with the rule that caused it, the old and new price, and the resulting margin.
Pricemaster does not touch your orders, customers, categories or your theme.
VAT handled for you: prices are held internally on a consistent ex-VAT basis for correct margin maths, then written back to your Magento price field so what a shopper sees stays consistent with how your store is configured.
Before You Start
What you need (and what you don't)
Connecting takes a couple of minutes. You'll need:
- An active Magento 2 store with your catalogue set up.
- Admin access to your store, so you can create an integration and copy its access token.
- Your store URL — the REST API lives at
your-store.com/rest/V1 and Pricemaster fills this in for you.
You do not need:
- Any CSV exports or imports — your catalogue imports itself.
- Developer work, or per-product setup.
Connecting Your Store
Link your Magento store
1
Pick Magento on the onboarding screen
From the onboarding "What platform are you using?" screen, choose Magento.
2
Enter your store details
Give the site a name (for example Acme Store) and add your store URL. The API URL field auto-fills to your-store.com/rest/V1 as you type — leave it unless your API lives elsewhere. Optionally upload a logo.
3
Paste your access token
Paste the integration access token from Magento (how to create one is below), then click Complete connection.
4
Your catalogue imports
Pricemaster saves the connection and starts pulling your catalogue in the background, then takes you straight to your products.
Creating a Magento access token: in Magento admin go to System → Extensions → Integrations → Add New Integration. Give it a name (e.g. Pricemaster). Under API, grant access to your Catalog / Products (and Stock) resources. Save, then Activate the integration — Magento shows an Access Token. Copy that token into Pricemaster.
After You Connect
What happens next
Pricemaster imports your catalogue and walks you through the rest of onboarding:
1
Products import
Your Magento products are pulled in with their SKUs, barcodes, cost, stock, images and any special prices. You can watch progress from the products area.
2
Match and select competitors
Each product is matched to competitor listings, primarily by EAN. You then enable the competitors that matter for your market.
3
Set your rules and go live
Build your pricing rules — follow-the-market, undercut, flat markup, flash — always inside your minimum-margin and cash-floor guardrails. From then on, prices recalculate against fresh market data and write back to Magento on a schedule. You can also trigger a manual send at any time.
When cost prices change in Magento, repricing recalculates on the new cost basis so your margins hold. Automated pushing only runs once you set your rules live, and you can send a single price by hand from any product page whenever you want.
Security & Control
You stay in control of the connection
- Access is via a Magento integration access token that you create and can revoke at any time from Magento admin under System → Extensions → Integrations — no need to contact us first.
- Grant the integration only the resources it needs — your catalogue and prices. It does not need access to orders or customers to reprice.
- Automated pricing only runs once you set your rules live; nothing is written to your store before then.
- A suspended account never pushes prices, regardless of any rule.
- Your Magento store stays the single source of truth; Pricemaster reads from it and writes prices back.
FAQs
Common questions
- Will it change anything other than prices? No. It reads your catalogue and updates the price on your products. Orders, customers, categories and your theme are left untouched.
- What about my sale prices? They're respected. If a product is on a special (sale) price, Pricemaster updates the special price; if it isn't, it updates the standard price. Your promotion structure isn't disturbed.
- How fast does a price change show on my store? Straight away. Pricemaster writes to the product in Magento, so the new price is live on your storefront as soon as it's sent.
- How often do prices update? Competitor data is refreshed on a schedule and prices are recalculated and pushed automatically. You can also trigger a manual send whenever you want.
- Won't automated pricing undercut my margins? No. Every automated price passes through your minimum-margin percentage and minimum cash-margin floors before it is sent. If a rule would breach a floor, the floor wins.
- I sell on other channels too, not just Magento. If you run Amazon, eBay or marketplaces through Linnworks, connect the Linnworks integration instead — one connection reprices every channel. For a Magento-only store, connect Magento directly.
- Do I need a developer or any CSVs? No. Create an integration access token in Magento admin, paste it into Pricemaster, and the catalogue imports itself.
